Dear Parents/Carers,

If your child should find themselves having to isolate due to COVID-19 but they are well enough to work, please find some activities below for them to keep with their class.

We would suggest one Maths activity, one Literacy activity and one other subject area activity each day where possible. There are links and activities on this page to support their learning.

Thank you for your ongoing support from home.

Kind regards,

Mrs Pearson, Miss Carter, Mrs Straughan and Miss Pudney

Super star work!!!! Stars of the week will be announced in the fortnightly newsletter from Mrs Khine.

This half term our topic is 'Africa'.  This week you will receive a copy of the curriculum overview

For the next two weeks we are looking at writing a first person narrative.

The slides above explain what to do each day and have links for film clips to give further information.

Day 1

Cold task - watch the story of Zahra and write a first person narrative for the story.  Use the success criteria in the files to help you write it.  Remember the first person, expanded noun phrases, chronological order, thoughts and feelings, verbs and adverbs.

Day 2 - first person pronouns.

Look at the clip to explain what the first person is.  Then circle the first person pronouns in the pieces of writing.  Complete the quiz to find the first person sentences.

Complete the day 2 tasks in the files - sorting first person sentences and writing first and third person sentences.

Day 3 - first person and expanded noun phrases

Describe different settings using the first person.  Add in adjectives in front of the nouns to describe the settings.  Then use these expanded noun phrases in sentences to describe the settings in the first person as if you were there.

Try with different settings.  Use the day 3 resources to help you in the files, Add in how you might feel in the settings, use conjunctions.

Day 4 - expanded noun phrases

Listen to the story Masai and I.

Pick out the expanded noun phrases used in the story and write them down.

Use these and their own to describe settings from the story.

Day 5 - feelings and emotions

Use the feelings graph and fill in how the girl was feeling in each part of the story.  Then write sentences to describe how she was feeling, use conjunctions to give more detail. Use the day 5 resources to fill in the graph and describe the different feelings.

Practise these Year 1 and 2 spellings, if you know them all can your write them into different sentences? Try painting them, making them out of stones, hiding them around the house, sticking them on post it notes to read around the house. Find them in your reading books.  How creative can you be?

There are lots of online songs to help with learning the times tables. Children in year 2 need to learn their 2 times tables, 5 times tables and 10 times tables. It would be helpful if they could also learn their three times table and count in threes.

We are looking at the Environment this half term.

Read the PowerPoint.

Then complete the sorting sheet for how to care for the environment and how not to.
